Brand Prompt Injection
The deliberate placement of brand mentions and entity descriptions into content corpora so answer engines surface the brand in generated responses.
Brand prompt injection is the deliberate placement of brand mentions, entity descriptions, and canonical link patterns into the content corpora that answer engines ground on, with the goal of surfacing the brand inside generated responses. It is a defensive variant of generative engine optimization, and the term itself is contested — some practitioners use it descriptively, others as a slur.
The practical version of the technique is less interesting than the term suggests. There is no special syntax that an answer engine treats as an instruction. What there is, instead, is the accumulated effect of a brand being mentioned, defined, contextualized, and cross-referenced across a sufficient number of independently-published sources that the brand becomes a well-resolved entity in the underlying knowledge graph the answer engine uses for grounding. Brands that have achieved this state are more likely to be cited. Brands that have not are less likely to be cited, regardless of how good their on-site content is.
Marketleaf covers brand prompt injection as a category practice — what it is, where the line between legitimate entity-establishment work and manipulative seeding sits, and which agencies are working in the more defensible end of the spectrum. We do not endorse pure-seeding tactics; we do recognize that the line between 'producing good independent reference content' and 'building citation surface' is not sharp, and that pretending it is sharp is not useful to a practitioner who has to ship something on Monday.
