Privacy Policy
A short, plain-language statement of what Marketleaf collects, what it does not, and the third-party services that operate on the site.
The short version
Marketleaf is a static website. We do not set marketing cookies, we do not run client-side analytics, and we do not track readers across the web. The only personal data we touch is the email address you provide if you subscribe to the newsletter or write to us.
What we collect
Marketleaf collects, processes, or stores the following categories of data:
- Email addresses provided by subscribers. If you submit your email address to the newsletter signup form, we use it to send you the newsletter. We do not sell, lease, or share subscriber lists with third parties. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter issue, or by writing to subscribe@marketleaf.com.
- Correspondence you send us. If you write to any of the publication's editorial addresses (editorial, tips, press, corrections), we read and retain the correspondence in the editorial inbox. On-background tips are handled per the editorial guidelines and not disclosed to third parties.
- Server access logs. The hosting infrastructure (Railway) logs incoming HTTP requests in the ordinary course of operating a web server. Logs are retained per the hosting provider's standard practice and are not used for analytics or profiling.
What we don't collect
- We do not set marketing or tracking cookies.
- We do not run client-side analytics (no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Fathom, no equivalent).
- We do not run advertising networks. There are no ad cookies on the site.
- We do not track readers across other websites. We do not participate in cross-site profiling.
- We do not collect demographic information from readers.
Local storage on your device
The site uses your browser's localStorage for the reading-list (Save) feature, which stores the URLs of articles you have saved locally on your device. This information lives on your device only. It is not transmitted to Marketleaf, and we do not have access to it. You can clear the reading list at any time from the reading-list page or by clearing your browser's site data.
Third-party services
The site uses a small number of third-party services in the course of operation:
- Railway hosts the site and serves it to your browser. Standard server access logs apply.
- Pagefind provides the on-site search. Pagefind runs entirely client-side; searches you perform are not transmitted to any server.
- Email infrastructure. Outbound newsletter emails are sent through standard email infrastructure (the specific provider may change over time). The provider has access to subscriber email addresses for the purpose of delivery only.
Cookies
Marketleaf does not set its own cookies. The site does not require a cookie banner because there are no tracking cookies to consent to. The closest equivalent on the site is the localStorage entry used by the reading-list feature, described above, which is not technically a cookie and does not require notice under the major cookie-consent regulations.
Your rights
Subscribers and correspondents have the following rights with respect to the personal data Marketleaf holds about them:
- The right to access the data the publication holds about you.
- The right to correct inaccurate data.
- The right to delete your data (subject to any retention period required by law).
- The right to withdraw consent for the newsletter at any time.
- The right to lodge a complaint with the relevant supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these rights, write to editors@marketleaf.com. We respond within thirty days.
International transfers
Marketleaf is operated by Lumenwhite Media Holdings Pte Ltd, a Singapore entity. The site is served from Railway's infrastructure, which may serve from data centers in multiple jurisdictions. Subscribers and correspondents outside Singapore acknowledge that their personal data may be processed in jurisdictions other than their country of residence.
GDPR and CCPA
For the avoidance of doubt: Marketleaf's data collection is minimal enough that most of the formal disclosures required under the GDPR and the CCPA are not applicable. We have produced the disclosures in this policy in plain language; if you require the policy in the formal regulatory register, write to the editorial address.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will note the change in the "last updated" date at the top of this page, and we will mention the change in the next issue of the newsletter.
