Marketleaf Practical AI marketing intelligence for in-house teams and small agencies.
Issue 1 · Vol. 1 · Est. 2026 The AI marketing trade, weekly.

Agentic marketing is the operating posture in which a marketing function is run as a coordinated network of specialized AI agents — researcher, brief-writer, copy agent, editor, distribution agent, attribution agent — rather than as a single chat session or a single generative tool. The unit of analysis is the workflow, not the prompt. Each agent has a defined role, a defined set of inputs and outputs, and a defined handoff to the next role in the chain. A human operator steers the network at the level of routines and reviews, not at the level of individual generations.

The shift from generative marketing to agentic marketing tracks a structural change in how teams get leverage from AI. Generative marketing extracted leverage from individual model calls. Agentic marketing extracts leverage from the design of the workflow that wraps those model calls — the handoffs, the memory, the human-review checkpoints, the surface on which output is reviewed. The posture is what makes a small agency competitive against a fifty-person content team, and what makes an in-house team able to ship at a velocity that earlier-decade headcount could not match.

A serious agentic-marketing program in 2026 has four observable traits: it operates from a named library of routines rather than from improvised prompting; it has a memory layer that retains context across sessions and projects; it surfaces agent output through a card-based UI a human can actually steer; and it carries a measured citation surface inside answer engines rather than relying on legacy SEO metrics alone. Programs that have all four traits are rare. Programs that claim them and have none are common — which is why our coverage in this category leans vendor-skeptical by default.
